Students of University of Miami’s Public Relations Experience Program (PREP) spent Saturday morning, Sept. 17, working the Miami Children’s Health Foundation’s (MCHF) 5k race at Coral Gables City Hall.

School of Communication PREP students assisted with photographers and videographers and aided with content and imagery for MCHF’s social media platforms. PREP newcomers Molly Peot, Emely Amaya, and Eva Tahernia helped photographers and videographers capture crucial moments such as the race kick-off, the start, finish, and award ceremony. PREP veteran Rizelle Zabate, along with three new PREP members, Erika Price, Gines Vivancos Duran, and Theresa Burton, helped keep MCHF’s social media feeds updated throughout the event by generating content for Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Periscope.

“I loved having the PREP students here,” said Jonathan Kavalos who managed MCHF’s social media for the event. “They were so professional and had great attitudes.”

Junior Kaley Surman, who is also a PREP Manager, served as the assistant to event coordinator Erika Mayor and helped manage the activies and presentations on the stage.

“It’s very easy to run an event when you have such a professional group who understand the media and public relations and are always eager to help. They make working a stressful event much easier,” said Mayor.

PREP partners with organizations across South Florida that provide opportunities for the students to gain exposure in the fields of public relations, journalism, special events, publicity, promotions, marketing, social media, and more. PREP has partnered with MCHF for several events throughout the semester, and is look forward to working its annual fundraiser gala, the Diamond Ball, held in October.
