*          "The 2009 Ibis Yearbook is looking for writers, photographers, designers, section editors (Academics, Organizations, Greeks, Lifestyles, People, Sports) and main editors (Copy, Photo, Design, Managing).

All positions are paid (we are the only other student organization on campus besides The Miami Hurricane that pays its members!) and this is an excellent opportunity to work at an award-winning publication that is a long-standing tradition at the University of Miami . If you're looking for that "dare to be great" situation, this is it. This is a great opportunity to build your resume, get published and/or get clips, and gain practical experience in all aspects of publishing. Be a part of a professional staff of students that creates excellent and respectable work.

Staff members also have the opportunity to attend a staff retreat as well as several conferences throughout the year.

Please contact Chris Rackliffe at
ibis@miami.edu if you are interested. List for which position(s) you'd like to be considered and for editor positions tell us why you want the position. Please place "2009 Ibis Opportunities" in the subject line of your email.

As the incoming Editor-in-Chief I'd like to speak with everyone who is interested and see if your goals and work ethic match what the Ibis needs."

*          Need another Distraction? Be a part of the exciting world of magazine journalism!  Join the staff of Distraction magazine, the unique, innovative and fun University of Miami student magazine, produced completely by students for students. Applications for the Executive Staff of Distraction Magazine for the Fall '08-Spring '09 school year are now available.  All majors are encouraged to apply. Please see attached application. Email Editor-in-Chief Dani McNally at d.mcnally@umiami.edu for additional information.

*          The School of Communication will be launching a peer advising program this fall.  If you have exceptional talents, are enthusiastic, energetic, friendly, motivated, and wish to make a difference in your school as a peer advisor, we are now accepting applications. Peer advisors will encounter innumerable opportunities to mentor freshman and sophomore students; properly advise them in all graduation requirements; and enjoy memorable experiences through their involvement in school. As a peer advisor, you will be able to secure an early registration appointment; receive gift certificates for the fall and spring terms; have a personalized, profile section in your school's website; ... etc.  All juniors and seniors, who are in good academic standing, are eligible to apply.  Please submit your complete applications to Natieska Rivas in room 2037. Deadline is April 25th.

*         In the days of silent movies, movietellers in Asia would “tell the movie” to the audience, theatrically relating the actions and characters on the screen.  This tradition, called “ Katsuben" , has evolved to a creative art form in which movietellers redefine the images we see on the screen.  On April 18, there will be an open workshop to work with modern movietellers to experience this unique tradition first-hand and create your own movietelling piece.  You will be working closely with Professor Walter K. Lew, poet and performance artist dennis M. somera, and digital media artist Eugene Ahn.  The workshop will be held April 18 at 1pm in Richter Library, Room 346.  Pieces will be performed at an April 20 showcase in the UC Patio 8pm.  Please RSVP for the workshop to r.dompor@umiami.edu by April 14.
