*         On March 20 the American Studies Program, the Africana Studies Program, and the School of Communication will host JANE RHODES , Dean for the Study of Race and Ethnicity, and Professor and Chair of American Studies, Macalester College on the topic of " Media, Race and Black Power in Popular Memory " It will be at 3:30pm in WCB 2055.

 

*         On March 18 the American Studies Program and the Department of History will host DAVID S. REYNOLDS, Distinguished Professor of English and American Studies, Graduate Center of the City University of New York. He will be speaking on "Transcendentalism, Transnationalism, and the Fall of Slavery"  It will be from 12:30-2:00 pm. - Notes -

  • Its time for submissions for the 2008 UM Canes Film Festival ! It will be May 2-4 at the Cosford Cinema. The School of Communication Canes Film Festival showcases narrative, documentary and animated films produced by students in the Motion Pictures Program . Deadline for submission is April 25th.

  • Canes International is a student run, student oriented journal that focuses on international affairs and all topics related to political science, law, cultural studies, environmental issues, economics etc. Canes International has continued to grow since it’s founding at the beginning of this academic year and they are currently looking for a number of positions to be filled   The positions available are: Secretary; Media Officer/Graphic Design artist; Web Design Assistant (2); Events/Announcement Coordinator; Writers * Also, please note that you can submit an application for any position not listed that you feel will contribute to the organization.
    All applications must include a resume and 200 word maximum statements that explain what they would like to be apart of Canes International. All applications are due by 5:00pm March 19 . Accepted applicants will be notified March 21 and will start on March 24 at the general meeting. Please send all questions and applications to

  • Have you already secured an internship for the summer semester?  Would you like that internship to be reflected on your official transcript?  Participate in the Toppel Internship Program! The Toppel Internship Program will provide a zero-credit transcript notation that will be visible on University of Miami transcripts.  The program will allow you to have work experience related to your major, career path, or possible career path/interest.  If you would like to learn more about this program, come to an open house!  For more information see the poster in the extras section of this email (last section)
