-Events & Meetings-

·        The Spring Career Expo is here. Wednesday, February 13, 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. in the Wellness Center. Career Expo has traditionally attracted about 200 companies from various industries such as personal and business financial services, banking, retail and merchandising, government, telecommunications, and marketing.  This expo is specially designed to expose students to a broad spectrum of career paths, as well as provide them with opportunities to secure internships and full-time jobs.  Students should participate in this event as a way to get to know the field and new trends o the industry.  All interested students and alumni must come professionally dressed with plenty of copies of their resumes.  This is an event that you should not let pass by, since it is a great opportunity to find jobs and internships for any time of the year. ·        The School of Communication will be hosting writer, director, and producer John Landis, for a COM week special event. John Landis’ new feature length documentary MR. WARMTH: THE DON RICKLES PROJECT premiered on HBO in December of 2007 to critical acclaim.

We will be screening 2 of his classic films – AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON and ANIMAL HOUSE at Cosford Cinema on Friday February 15th. Mr. Landis will speak between the 2 screenings.

7:00pm – AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON;

8:45pm – A Conversation with John Landis;

9:30pm – ANIMAL HOUSE

·        The School of Communication will be hosting costume designer Deborah Nadollman Landis. Deborah Nadollman Landis has worked for films including COMING TO AMERICA and the Indiana Jones Film, RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK. She will discuss her most recent book, Dressed: A Century of Hollywood Costume. The discussion will take place on the afternoon of Friday, February 15 at 1:25 p.m. at the University of Miami’s School of Communication.

·       NBC is looking for “runners” for the Today Show when it broadcast directly from Miami Beach on February 22nd. The job will run for about the entirety of the week (2/18-2/22), is a paid position, and is great experience.  If you are interested in this opportunity please bring your resume and a paragraph on “why you wish work with with NBC” to our office on Monday February 11th!

AWARDS FOR 2008-2009 ACADEMIC YEAR: Awards will range from $5,000 to $15,000.00. Individual scholarship awards will be based on quality of projects submitted.

OPEN TO:  All students in all majors in the School of Communication

HOW TO APPLY:  An application is attached.  Applicants must submit a project that includes one or more of the following subjects:  wine (including subtopics such as wine and health, etc.), food or the hospitality industry.  Such projects could include, but are not limited to, a video or short documentary, news or feature writing, a press kit, an advertising project, a graphic design project, a photography portfolio, or a scholarly or research paper.

APPLICATION DEADLINE:  April 28th, 2008
