  • Cosford Cinema will be having a free screening of "Vince Vaugn's Wild West Comedy Show: 30 Days & 30 Nights – Hollywood to the Heartland" on Thursday, February 7, 2008 at 9:00pm. There will be a Q&A after the film with Director Ari Sandeland comedian/cast member Bret Ernst. All attendees will have a chance after the movie to win a Flip Video Digital Camcorder.   • Thursday February 7th, The Frost School of Music is hosting Philip Glass, Glass in Conversation: Music for film. Please see attached Music Flyer for more information.

 

  • FEBRUARY 4: The American Studies Department and the Sue and Leonard Miller Center for Contemporary Judaic Studies will host ARNOLD EISEN, Chancellor, Jewish Theological Seminary "Commandment, Community and the Future of American Jewry” 8:00-10:00 pm Miller Center Auditorium

 

-Notes-

 

  • On Saturday, February 9, the UM Debate Team will host its 4th Urban Debate League tournament of the academic year at the School of Communication.  Judges and other helpers are needed between the hours of 9 am and 4 pm. Judges will be compensated $60 per day, or $20 per debate round, plus breakfast and lunch.  Documentation of community service hours is also available. Those who have questions or would like to register themselves as judges/ helpers should email Carrie Hanson at c.hanson@umiami.edu.

 

  • A SoC student needs help with a creation of a UM Talent show on TV. Anyone interested in helping with this production should contact Jessica Abuchaibe at abuchaibej@yahoo.com

Description: Talent show on TV geared towards singers, dancers, and people that play instruments. There will be three shows of four talents each. Each show will have three judges (the same of course for every show) whom will vote numerically what score each talent gets. At the end of the show, only one of the four talents will be able to move on.

AWARDS FOR 2008-2009 ACADEMIC YEAR: Awards will range from $5,000 to $15,000.00. Individual scholarship awards will be based on quality of projects submitted.

OPEN TO:  All students in all majors in the School of Communication

HOW TO APPLY:  An application is attached.  Applicants must submit a project that includes one or more of the following subjects:  wine (including subtopics such as wine and health, etc.), food or the hospitality industry.  Such projects could include, but are not limited to, a video or short documentary, news or feature writing, a press kit, an advertising project, a graphic design project, a photography portfolio, or a scholarly or research paper.
