SoC Head Reading Room Communication Honors Program

Overview

arrow Undergraduate Programs

The School of Communication offers a School-wide Honors program which entails a minimum of 39 credits for the major:

CORE REQUIREMENTS (15 credits)

  • COM 101 - Mass Media Communication in Society (Honors Section)
  • COM110 - Communication Theory
  • COM 250 - Freedom of Expression and Communication Ethics (Honors Section)
  • One of the School’s Survey Courses
  • One of the School’s Writing Courses

ADDITIONAL HONORS REQUIREMENTS (9 credits)
Students must complete nine credits in the following courses:

  • COM 395 - Honors Seminar in Communication
  • COM 401 - Honors Communication Colloquium
  • COM 499 - Senior Honors Project / Thesis

OTHER COM MAJOR COURSES (15 or 21 credits)
Students must complete a minimum of 15 or 21 credits from their selected communication Honors major. You must meet with Dr. Shapiro, Director of Honors, during your first three semesters in order to customize the remaining of your program.

  • COH1 Communication Honors – Advertising (15 credits)
  • COH2 Communication Honors – Public Relations (15 credits)
  • COH3 Communication Honors – Broadcast Journalism (15 credits)
  • COH4 Communication Honors – Electronic Media (15 credits)
  • COH5 Communication Honors – Media Management (15 credits)
  • COH6 Communication Honors – Print Journalism (15 credits)
  • COH7 Communication Honors – Visual Journalism (15 credits)
  • COH8 Communication Honors – Motion Pictures (15 – 21 credits)
  • COH0 Communication Honors – Communication Studies (15 – 21 credits)
  • COHI Communication Honors – Specialized (15 credits)
