Andrea Reimann

Assistant Professor, Motion Picture

Andrea Reimann received a Ph.D. and Master of Arts in German Studies, with a focus on film, literature and culture from the University of Illinois. She also holds a Master of Arts in English and German (literature and linguistics) from the University of Zürich, Switzerland. Her teaching experience includes German film, culture, and language. Dr. Reimann has also worked as a programmer and publicist of Open-Air-Film Festivals, and as a film editor.

Her book project focuses on themes, styles, politics and production modes of current German and Turkish-German cinema. Her other research and teaching interests include Art-House/auteur cinema, comparative film, immigrant cinema and literature, Italian neo-realism and its influence, the road movie genre, representation and performance of gender, ethnicity, race, trans-nationalism, and European supra-nationalism.

Dr. Reimann has published several articles and her essay on Turkish-German films in the late 1990s is forthcoming in A New History of German Cinema. She is currently working on an article on "new realism" and the Berlin School of directors, and on the films by Fatih Akin.
