Chicas Poderosas — an organization dedicated to empowering Latin American women journalists to excel in visual storytelling, data visualization and interactive media with hands-on skills training — will hold its first workshop in the United States from April 17 to 20 in Miami. SoC Team Wins National Student Advertising Competition in District Four

The student team from the School of Communication won the National Student Advertising Competition District Four Championship on April 5 in Orlando and will move on to the semi-final round later this month. PRSSA will host a fashion show from 7- 9 p.m. on Friday, April 11. Donations will go toward sending students to the PRSSA national conference which will be in Washington D.C. this year. The show's theme is "Miami Vice" and includes sponsors like ASOS, Victoria's Secret PINK, and local Miami boutiques like ALX Couture, Simply Sisters, Fashion Mafia, and SoleFly. The UM Debate Team completed an outstanding and successful competitive year competing in Policy Debate ranked among the top university debate teams in the country by all three policy debate organizations. Rankings are determined by points accumulated through tournament performances throughout the year. Each organization uses a different formula in determining their sweepstakes award winners. UM finished 6th overall in The American Debate Association, with our Junior Varsity team ranked 4th and our Novice team 6th. Salvation Army, the rapturous debut feature from Moroccan writer Abdellah Taïa will premiere at the Cosford Cinema on Thursday, April 3 at 7 p.m. followed with a special Q&A with the filmmaker and scholars. The film offers a charged, semi-autobiographical tale about a young graduate who must navigate the sexual, racial, and political intrigue surrounding his arrival in Geneva.
