University of Miami School of Communication student Andres Correa proves he’s ‘got’ what it takes to succeed in the commercial advertising market.

In May, Correa won “Voter’s Choice” for a video he created for the popular Got Milk? advertising campaign. The video was the first project of LavaBean Productions, a company Correa started in February with his friends Eddy Herrero and Roly Benitez.

The trio entered the Got Milk? commercial contest on zooppa.com, a website that features brand-sponsored advertising contests. Out of 200 submissions from around the globe, Correa and friends won first place in “Voter’s Choice” and $1,000 for their video titled “Like Father, Like Son.”

The theme of their commercial, “It’s just not breakfast without milk” is explained through the relationship of a father and son at the breakfast table. The commercial tells the moving story of a young boy coming of age and growing into a father set around the kitchen table with a glass of milk on it.

“The response from the Miami community was more than any of us anticipated. Many people contacted us to make sure we knew how touching the video was to them,” said Correa, a junior majoring in journalism and political science. “That became the best reward we could have asked for.”

The achievement only marks the beginning for LavaBean Productions, which is spending the summer working on promotional videos for other companies.

“Right now we are trying to invest all of our prize money and other earnings into our company so that we can build it and eventually begin making our own short films and features.” Correa said.
