Our 2009 trip begins on Wednesday, May 20, and we finish up on Wednesday, June 24.

We will post the feature stories and accompanying photographs of our writers on this part of the Web site. We will also post daily blogs to document our adventures for interested readers.

We are based in China's largest city, Shanghai, but we will making trips to the nation's capital of Beijing, the commercial center of Hong Kong, the historic city of Lijiang in Yunnan Province, and the national capital of Bangkok in Thailand.

Our apartments are located in the downtown district of Shanghai and just north of the popular French Concession district.

Members of our group this year are Joey Held, a broadcasting major from Chicago, Bryan Sheriff, a journalism major from Toronto, and Ashley Torres, a journalism major from Brandon, Fla.

More information about us, our blogs, feature stories, and many photographs from the trip will be posted here as we travel in late May and June.

The course is led by Dr. Bruce Garrison (bruce@miami.edu), a member of the faculty of the Journalism Program in the School of Communication at UM. Garrison is a former Fulbright grant recipient in Shanghai and he has extensive experience as a traveler in China, Thailand, and other countries in Asia.

Garrison is assisted by Ms. Yu Liu. Liu is currently a doctoral student in the School of Communication at the University of Miami. She is a former staff writer for a news magazine in Beijing.

The program has made previous semester trips to Asia in summer 2008, summer 2007, and summer 2006.
